Listening to one bowl

A bowl is a bell with a long tail. The useful part is often the silence after the metal stops, not the strike itself.

A longer outline

  1. Pick one note from the chart and stay with it. Root is often taught as C, then the scale climbs. You do not need seven bowls to begin.
  2. Strike once. Listen until you cannot tell whether you still hear it. That edge is the practice.
  3. If you add a seed sound, speak it after the tone fades: Lam, Vam, Ram, Yam, Ham, Om, or no syllable at the crown. The chart lists silence as a crown sound on purpose.
  4. The tip cards go further into how to set a bowl down, how long to wait, and how to keep the ritual small enough that you actually do it. The free note is the listening. The cards are the sequence.
